My love of history came by being taught the subject by Mrs Danks at Millbrook Secondary Modern School for Girls during the sixties. Characters and events she bought to life, I was hooked!
Being of an Irish/Welsh background my own history was steeped in countries that meant very little to me until I got much older and was able to explore and record my own and family history.
I have been involved with MLHS since it's conception, toddler stage and now entering in to the teenage years. To me, celebrating and recording Millbrook's history has given me a sense of belonging, a family to share and enjoy, to meet and greet, happy times and sad.
I look forward to another busy interesting year ahead and with the creation of our website we can share the wonderful, interesting history of our area to a wider audience!
Log in next time to find out how Millbrook Local History came about.....and the rest they say is history!!
I have been a member of the Millbrook Local History Society for the past 8 years. I have lived in Southampton all my life but never seemed to have had much time to take in and learn about the history behind my home town and surrounding areas. However by coming to the monthly meetings which I find really informative with various speakers, the occasional quiz plus outings. I have met and made new friends and am now a committee member. So my advice is come along to a meeting one month and meet our friendly and welcoming group.
